The Craft & Folk Art Museum and Farhang Foundation are calling for submissions for the juried exhibition “Focus Iran 3: Contemporary Photography and Video,” from June 11 to Aug. 24.
“Focus Iran” is a series of biennial exhibitions that features photography and video works about Iran. The theme of “Focus Iran 3” will be perspectives about contemporary Iranian youth culture. Approximately 40 selected photographs and videos will be displayed in a group exhibition to take place at the Craft & Folk Art Museum from Jan. 27 to May 5, 2019, with an opening reception to take place on Jan. 26 from 6-9 p.m.
Cash prizes and a print advertisement in ArtForum will be awarded to the top three selections.
“We initiated ‘Focus Iran’ in collaboration with Farhang Foundation in 2015 to bring forth different perspectives about Iranian culture, both inside and outside the country,” CAFAM Executive Director Suzanne Isken said. “We are excited to see how artists embrace this year’s theme and explore the fascinating energy of contemporary Iranian youth.”
“Farhang Foundation is proud to once again join forces with the Craft & Folk Art Museum to create this amazing platform for artists worldwide,” said Amir Angha, chair of Farhang Foundation’s Fine Arts Council. “This year’s theme, combined with our esteemed jury panel, will no doubt bring a lot of excitement to ‘Focus Iran 3,’ and we certainly cannot wait to see what compelling works are submitted this year.”
“Focus Iran 3” is free to enter. Artists 18 years of age and older are invited to apply.
A distinguished panel of jurors will consider each photograph or video submission’s pertinence to the theme of contemporary Iranian youth culture. Only digital format entries will be eligible, with either one photograph or one video entry per artist.
All entries will be processed through callforentry.org. Entries that are sent directly to the Craft & Folk Art Museum or Farhang Foundation will be disqualified. Selected photographs and videos will be produced by the Craft & Folk Art Museum for exhibition display.
CAFAM is located at 5814 Wilshire Blvd. For information, visit cafam.org or farhang.org.
