L.A.’s best bloody mary
On Saturday, May 26, the city’s best bars and restaurants are competing for the title of Los Angeles’ best bloody mary from 3 to 5:30 p.m. MiniBar Hollywood has partnered with Salt’s Cure to crown this year’s winner. Participating restaurants include Big Bar, Cha Cha Lounge, Redbird, The Hearth & Hound, Little Dom’s, Cole’s and Kali. The ninth annual vegan food and beverage festival will take place on Saturday, May 26, at the Rose Bowl and Brookside Golf Course. This year, the event features national and international restaurants and brands offering unlimited pours of craft beer, wine, cider, kombucha, cold brew, craft sodas and tea. The craft beer program is curated by Jimmy Han of Beer Belly. Los Angeles Ale Works is making a special golden chanterelle brew made from mushrooms grown on oak logs. They impart a super nice oak flavor into the beer and are brewed with a puffed wild rice, making it one of the healthiest beers out there. The festival will feature over 100 of the top vegan restaurants, food carts and trucks. Vendors from around the world will showcase and sell everything from clothing to packaged foods. Visit the CBD village, Seed wellness village, and Drunken Lotus, a hybrid wine tasting-yoga class. Modern Times Brewery will debut their vegan donut burger and donut-infused stout in partnership with Donut Friend. General admission tickets are $50 and include entry at 2 p.m. Ticket holders receive a 4-ounce tasting glass with unlimited pours, as well as access to boutiques and body care shops. Participants must be 16 and older, and those under 21 will only have access to only nonalcoholic beverages. Food will be sold separately. The VIP ticket is $120 and includes entry starting at noon. ‘MAINopoly: Taste of Main Street’
This fifth annual event benefiting Heal the Bay and Summer SOULstice is on Sunday, May 27, from 1 to 6 p.m. Attendees exchange “MAINopoly dollars” during a walking and tasting tour while visiting restaurants, ice cream stores and coffee shops in Santa Monica. It’s a fun, interactive version of the classic board game experience with sweet and savory fare at M Street Kitchen, Sweet Rose Creamery, Stella Barra Pizzeria, Manchego and Bulletproof Coffee. Select restaurants will offer drink specials, including $5 draft beers and $6 cocktails for those with the official wristband. Other culinary stops are Ashland Hill, Aussie Pie Kitchen, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Dolcenero Gelato, Finn McCool’s, La Vecchia Cucina, Lula Cocina Mexicana, Novel Cafe, Rick’s Tavern, Simples Tonics and The Victoria. Red Nose Day at Pitchoun
Pitchoun Bakery is selling $1 red noses in the bakery through May 27. Proceeds will be donated to Comic Relief USA. Melody hosts a “Wine Down” event every Wednesday through Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Learn about a featured winemaker in the picturesque new Virgil Village restaurant. The constantly changing selection includes full- to light-bodied, acidic wines to complement the “lazy French” menu. Melody also offers an assortment of wine cocktails, including the Faux Pas, made with cappelletti aperitivo, Punt e Mes aperitif, sparkling wine and grapefruit. With a goal of overthrowing Napa as the epicenter of California wine, Melody stocks producers from the Central Coast and Santa Barbara, as well as a handful from Los Angeles. Now in downtown Los Angeles, JINYA Ramen Bar is Tokyo ramen master Tomonori Takahashi’s fifth Los Angeles location. Exclusive to the new DTLA location is a 101-bottle sake list, offering guests the opportunity to learn and savor the Japanese spirit, including rare and limited-edition bottles.
