A convicted felon serving a life sentence for a 2007 murder pleaded guilty on May 29 to committing three additional murders in 2004, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Gilton Pitre, 46, entered the guilty plea to three counts of first-degree murder and admitted two special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder with a prior murder conviction. Pitre is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 29 and faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Prosecutors contended that Pitre murdered Maribel Medina on or around Jan. 31, 2004, and Irma Barboza, 24, on or around Sept. 2, 2004. Barboza was approximately eight months pregnant when she was killed. Both women were transients whose bodies were dumped in the downtown Los Angeles area.
Pitre was sentenced to 110 years to life in state prison for the first-degree murder of Alyssa Gomez, a 15-year-old runaway whom he strangled in 2007 in a motel room in the 2700 block of Sunset Boulevard. According to reports, Pitre killed Gomez in a room at the Olive Motel in the 2700 block of Sunset Boulevard and dumped her body in a nearby alley. Police identified Pitre through a blanket he had used to cover the body that was linked to the hotel, and surveillance camera footage from the hotel.
