Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Division are searching for a group of suspects who have been driving around and shooting pedestrians with paintball guns.

The group is responsible for four paintball shootings over the past two weeks, said Det. Kathy Mayer. One occurred in the 2100 block of South La Brea Avenue and another occurred near Rimpau Boulevard and 12th Street. She did not have the locations of the other incidents readily available.

Victims have described seeing four to five male black teen suspects in a dark-colored, four-door vehicle. They pull up to unsuspecting victims and fire paintballs at them before driving away. Some of the victims have been struck, but Mayer said fortunately, no serious injuries have resulted.

“There is a potential for it to be very dangerous,” Mayer said. “Be alert. Be aware of your surroundings. They just kind of roll by and shoot paintballs.”

Mayer said similar incidents occurred approximately one year ago, but it is uncertain whether the same people are involved. The shootings all happened around 3:30 p.m., leading authorities to believe it may be students driving around after school. Detectives have been checking security camera footage near where the shootings occurred and are trying to identify the suspects.
