To celebrate the beginning of the 2018 Winter Olympics, the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood is holding a special “Throwback Thursday” screening of “Cool Runnings” on Thursday, Feb. 8

The screening also celebrates the film’s 25th anniversary. “Cool Runnings,” based on a true story, was originally released on Oct. 1, 1993. With few resources and virtually no clue about winter sports, it’s an uphill course for a “troupe from the tropics” who are sliding on thin ice as they go for the gold during the Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada. Refusing to let anything stand in their way, the four Jamaicans enlist the help of a down-and-out ex-champion American slider to help them achieve their dreams of winning.
“Our ‘Throwback Thursdays’ continue to be a great tradition for our El Capitan Theatre guests,” said Ed Collins, general manager of The El Capitan Theatre. “It’s always a treat to delve into the Disney vaults for a classic film, and there is just no better way to usher in the 2018 Winter Olympics than by celebrating the 25th anniversary of ‘Cool Runnings.’ The evening will be filled with lots of fun elements including raffle prizes and more.”
Tickets are $10. The El Capitan Theatre is located at 6838 Hollywood Blvd. For information, call (800)DISNEY6, or visit elcapitantickets.com.
