The Original Farmers Market, corner of Third and Fairfax, and The Grove Original Farmers Market will celebrate Lunar New Year with a “Year of the Dog” event on Sunday, Jan. 28 from noon to 5 p.m. on Gilmore Lane and the Farmers Market Plaza.

Guests and visitors can ring in the Lunar New Year with traditional Asian performances, special craft activities, cooking demonstrations, red envelope giveaways, social media contests, décor installations and activities for dogs. The festivities kick off at noon on the Farmers Market Plaza with a celebration of all things canine. The Dog Bakery at the Original Farmers Market will unveil a custom “Year of the Dog” dog cake and all pooches are welcome to enjoy a slice, while supplies last. The Dog Bakery is also sponsoring a dog-cookie decorating activity and will provide free giveaways. Michelson Found Animals, and Wags and Walks will hold dog adoptions on Gilmore Lane.
From 2 to 5 p.m., Gilmore Lane will feature cultural performances including traditional lion and dragon dances, traditional Beijing Opera performances, martial arts and K-POP dance performances with emcee Aaron Yang. Between performances, guests can enjoy craft and culinary activities on the Farmers Market Plaza and Gilmore Lane including Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting, face painting, balloon twisting, sugar painting, dough figurines, a dumpling cooking demonstration, tea ceremony and craft activities for children.
