Los Angeles Police Department detectives are investigating a case in which a man was run over by his own vehicle after being carjacked.

The incident occurred on Monday, Dec. 11 at approximately 6:25 p.m. in the 600 block of Carondelet Street. Officers responded to a 911 call about an assault with a deadly weapon and discovered a 54-year-old man on the rooftop level of a parking structure suffering from severe trauma to his head and body. Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Investigators with the LAPD’s Rampart Division determined the victim was involved in an argument and fight with a male suspect. Detectives located security camera footage showing a Hispanic man driving the victim’s vehicle from the scene.

At approximately 9 p.m., LAPD officers in the San Fernando Valley located the vehicle and arrested a man removing property. He was identified as Mitchell Castillo, 36. Police believe Castillo is a transient. He was booked for carjacking.
