After sold-out performances at Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and UCLA’s Freud Playhouse, the shadow play “Feathers of Fire: A Persian Epic” makes its debut at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, Oct. 20, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 29.

Conceived, designed and directed by Hamid Rahmanian, “Feathers of Fire” was inspired by “Shahnameh,” the 10th-century book of epic Persian poetry. Using shadow puppetry to create live animation on a cinema-size screen, the tale follows a pair of star-crossed lovers, Zaul and Rudabeh.
Utilizing eight actors, 160 puppets, and 15 masks and costumes, each performance will be followed by a live 20-minute behind-the-scenes presentation exploring the technique of shadow puppetry.
Also at The Wallis, catch “Turn Me Loose,” a play about activist and comic Dick Gregory. The show was extended through Sunday, Nov. 19, due to popular demand.
Single tickets for “Feathers of Fire” are now available from $35 to $125, and for “Turn Me Loose” tickets are from $60 to $75.
