Grand Central Market birthday
The Grand Central Market downtown is celebrating its 100th birthday on Friday, Oct. 27 beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Hill Street side of the market will be decorated with 13,000 balloons. All visitors will receive a slice of vendor Valerie Gordon’s 100-layer birthday cake, which will be decorated with whole fruit and made from 390 pounds of butter, chocolate, vanilla and strawberry jam. Many vendors will also serve nostalgic items, including egg creams at McConnell’s Ice Cream, and others will offer 100-cent specials. Zombie crawl in Santa Monica
On Saturday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m., zombies will pub crawl from Rusty’s Surf Ranch at the Santa Monica Pier to the Third Street Promenade. Makeup artists will help the first 100 attendees transform into zombies. Stroll with spooky drinks and enjoy festive food specials. Wristbands are $12 in advance; $15 the day of the crawl. Participants will receive $4 drafts, $5 well drinks and $5 shots at participating locations including Rusty’s Surf Ranch, Big Dean’s, Del Frisco’s Grille, Cabo Cantina, Ye Old King’s Head and Barney’s Beanery. Theatricum BOO-tanicum
Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum transforms into the haunted BOO-tanicum on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 4 to 10 p.m. The Halloween extravaganza features festive food and creative libations, as well as a haunted house and trick or treating. Visit Mohawk Bend in Echo Park on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 3 to 8 p.m. for Halloween fun. Children who bring a carved or painted pumpkin will receive a free kids’ meal and candy, and can take pictures in a photo booth.
