Friday the 13th at Westbound
Westbound is holding a Halloween extravaganza on Friday, Oct. 13 with spooky craft cocktails and a double screening of the original 1980 thriller, “Friday the 13th.” The celebration continues throughout October with special “potions” for $10 during “Witching Hour” every Tuesday through Thursday, and Sunday, from 11 p.m. to closing. Cocktails include the Ichabod Plane, Double Bubble Boilermaker Trouble and They’re Here. On Wednesday’s “Harvest Night,” decorate a pumpkin while sitting by a fire pit on the back patio and enjoy Westbound’s new fall cocktails. Pumpkins are $2 to $8. San Antonio Winery celebrates 100 Years
Celebrate Los Angeles’ oldest urban vintner on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the San Antonio Winery, located east of downtown Los Angeles. The winery will host an afternoon of music, food, drinks, entertainment and fun focusing on the spirit and diversity of Los Angeles. Herringbone and the Polo Classic

Celebrate National Seafood Month at the third annual “Off The Hook Seafood Festival” on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. on the Santa Monica Pier. The Hollywood Crawl of Fame
Join a bar crawl in Hollywood on Sunday, Oct. 15 starting at 2 p.m. Separate bartender duos will lead two groups on walks to four different bars that will open specifically for the crawl. During National Pasta Month, chef Bruce Kalman of Union is raising money for American Red Cross disaster relief in Puerto Rico, Texas and Florida. Kalman will highlight one of his signature pasta dishes each week. Through Oct. 14, the feature dish is spaghetti alla chitarra made with San Marzano tomatoes, garlic, fresno chiles and grana padano. From Oct. 15 to Oct. 21, Kalman is serving squid ink lumache topped with Maine lobster, fennel, Meyer lemon and truffle butter. Owner and entrepreneur Claire Ackad is passionate about coffee and has scoured the globe to create an enhanced coffee-drinking experience. Grand Central Market cuisine and culture cookbook
Learn how the Grand Central Market created a “culinary quilt” of tenants in 1917 through a new book about the market. Adele Yellin, president of the Yellin Company, which owns and operates the Grand Central Market, co-authored the book along with Kevin West, a writer, co-creative director and advisor on the Grand Central Market’s revitalization. With a 100-year anniversary approaching, West and Yellin gathered signature recipes from 40 vendors. Learn how the vendors got their start and how they have expanded to other neighborhoods. Photographs show how the market’s tenants represent the city’s diverse communities. Recipes include Eggslut’s coddled eggs with potato puree, Clark Street Bread’s pan dulce, and Press Brothers Juicery’s vitality smoothie and V-9 juice.
