Residents will have more options to beat the late summer heat with the Pan Pacific Park and Griffith Park pools open through Sept. 29, and the Hollywood Pool open through Oct. 1.

The Los Angeles City Council last week approved a motion by Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, 13th District, to keep the Hollywood Pool open on weekends from 1 to 5 p.m. On Tuesday, the council approved a separate motion by Councilman David Ryu, 4th District, to keep the Pan Pacific Park and Griffith Parks open on weekends from 1 to 5 p.m. The pools had been scheduled to closed after Labor Day Weekend.

“Angelenos know that our summer weather does not end on Labor Day,” said Ryu, who is a member of the council’s Arts, Parks, and River Committee. “Due to the recent heat wave, my office has partnered with the Department of Recreation and Parks to extend the summer pool season so families throughout Los Angeles can continue to cool down at Pan Pacific Park and Griffith Park. I encourage families to take advantage of these great community pools through Sept. 29.”

“For the third consecutive year, we are extending the season at the beautiful Hollywood Pool,” O’Farrell added. “So many families are taking advantage of this opportunity to cool off as the summer heat reaches into fall. I want to thank the Department of Recreation and Parks for working with my office to provide an opportunity for neighbors to beat the heat and take full advantage of this wonderful public resource.”

The three pools will remain open with $36,493 in AB 1290 funds, used for community redevelopment and services in council districts. The Hollywood Pool was renovated and reopened in 2015 using Proposition. K funds. It has a water slide and three shaded bleachers.

“We are excited to provide extended pool hours, additional recreational activities for youth and families to enjoy through the end of September,” said Michael A. Shull, general manager for the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, which operates the pool facilities.

General admission to the pools is $3.50 for adults ages 18-64, $1 for children under 17 and seniors 65 and older.

The Griffith Park Pool is located at 3401 Riverside Drive, the Pan Pacific Park is located at 161 S. Gardner St., and the Hollywood Pool is at 1122 Cole Ave. For information, visit laparks.org.
