A 60-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and killed on Sept. 1 at 5:50 p.m. near the corner of Fountain and Fuller avenues. Detectives with the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station are investigating the collision.
Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office spokesman Ed Winter identified the victim as Enrique Lopez Nava, of West Hollywood. The coroner’s office report indicated that Nava was struck while crossing the street by a vehicle traveling approximately 35 mph, Winter said.
Deputy John Heald, of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station, said the speed limit on Fountain Avenue is 35 mph. The driver stopped at the scene. Drug or alcohol impairment was not a factor and the driver was not arrested or cited. Heald said while motorists sometimes speed on Fountain Avenue, it is not considered a problematic location for speeding.
Motorists are cautioned to be more aware of their surroundings, and pedestrians are encouraged to cross only when it is safe. Although crossing is legal at any intersection, pedestrians must use discretion. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact investigators with the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station at (310)855-8850.
