The Los Angeles Unified School District Arts Education Branch is partnering with the LA Promise Fund to provide teachers with resources and professional development opportunities corresponding with The Getty’s Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA.

Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA,which launched on Sept. 14, features events and exhibitions of Latin American and Latino art relating to Los Angeles. The exhibitions present an opportunity to connect students with their identity and to strengthen the relationship between schools and museums.

Professional development sessions for secondary teachers in grades 6-12 were created to help instructors connect to the themes of “Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA” and to the arts in instruction. Secondary teachers can attend sessions and are eligible to receive the free use of buses for their students to visit a museum or gallery participating in the Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA initiative. The sessions will take place on Saturday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 14 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Esteban Torres High School library. To register, email Megan.Hannen@lausd.net.

Participants will be taught research-based instructional strategies for teaching the arts. Free copies of teacher resource guides will highlight Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA exhibitions. The sessions will better enable teachers to develop lesson plans.

As part of the Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, LA Promise Fund also created an education grant program for teachers with $500 to $1,000 grants to support instruction.
