Rosewood Avenue Elementary recently received a $5,000 grant for its outdoor science garden program from RAW Inspiration, a philanthropic organization that operates numerous farmers markets throughout Southern California, including the Melrose Farmers Market on Sundays.

The grant was presented to the school’s principal Linda Crowder and garden coordinator Jennifer Anderson – affectionately known as “Garden Jenn” – at a special gathering in the school’s garden with parents and students.
“We are so grateful for our partnerships with key community supporters, like RAW Inspiration, who recognize the work we are doing to promote science and nutrition in creative ways,” Crowder said. “For the past five years, a key group of parents, along with Garden Jenn, have continued to build this program into a strong, key component of our Science, Technology, Engineering and Math curriculum. Our students at an early age are exposed to key scientific concepts that we build on every year.”
Melissa Farwell and Katie Rogers, or RAW Inspiration, presented the check to Crowder. “One of our key missions is to educate children on the importance of good nutrition and the value of growing organic food,” said Rogers, director of marketing and development for RAW Inspirations. “We are thrilled with the hard work shown by the Rosewood students, parents and teachers and proud to support this program.
The grant will be used to continue the weekly garden classes taught by Garden Jenn, and will also be used to purchase new hand tools, small rakes and garden gloves.
