With the recent destruction caused by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is warning the public about scams targeting people selling equipment on websites like Craigslist or eBay that is used for disaster relief.

The perpetrator contacts the seller and claims to be gathering disaster relief supplies. They persuade the victim to donate the item or sell it at a reduced price. However, the equipment is never used for relief efforts and instead, the perpetrator resells the item for profit.
