Two male suspects have been arrested and charged for murdering a man on June 12 on Hollywood Boulevard near the Hollywood (101) Freeway.
Det. Sean Kinchla, with the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Bureau Homicide Unit, said the incident occurred at approximately 8 a.m. after an altercation between the victim and suspects. One of the suspects stabbed the victim, who was taken to a hospital where he died. No motive has been established.
“It happened right by a freeway off-ramp,” Kinchla said. “The [investigators] worked it pretty hard, doing the legwork, amassing video and talking to witnesses.”
The suspects were taken into custody within a little over 24 hours. The investigation led them to 33-year-old Alex Vasquez, who was arrested at approximately 10:45 a.m. on June 13 in the 4600 block of Santa Monica Boulevard. Kinchla described Vasquez as a transient. He said the second suspect is a juvenile and declined to provide any further information about him. Both suspects were booked for murder. Vazquez is being held on $2 million bail.
The murder was the second to occur in Hollywood this year. The first occurred in May in the 1500 block of Wilcox Avenue and remains under investigation.
