Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles (JFS) held its 24th annual Gala on May 23 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The event raised more than $1.3 million for JFS programs providing shelter, counseling, nutrition and other services.
JFS honored Renee and Paul Haas with the JFS Spirit of Humanity Award for their support of people in need and JFS. The couple volunteers at the JFS SOVA Community Food and Resource Program and are among the original sponsors of JFS CBS’s “A Day Of Hope,” which benefits the JFS Family Violence Project.
Sara and Dr. David Aftergood received the JFS Stanley and Anita Hirsh Award for their dedication and commitment to JFS and the community. Sara Aftergood is a JFS board member and has served as co-chair of the JFS SOVA Leadership Committee and as JFS board secretary.
JFS’s Special Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Paul S. Castro, CEO and president of JFS. Castro has worked throughout his career to further opportunities for people in disadvantaged and disenfranchised communities. For information, visit jfsla.org.
