Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department detectives have arrested two people allegedly involved in a series of burglaries in the Mid-City area and the San Gabriel Valley.
Detectives were investigating a suspicious SUV on May 16 that was believed to be used during the residential burglaries. At approximately 11 a.m., investigators followed the Porsche Cayenne to the 14500 block of Wadkins Avenue in the city of Gardena. A suspect, later determined to be Ricky Holmes, 39, exited the vehicle and walked through a side yard of a residence. Minutes later, the suspect came out of the front door of the residence carrying bag.
The suspect reentered the SUV and drove away. Detectives confirmed that a side window to the residence had been opened and the interior of the home was ransacked. They notified Gardena Police Department officers, who attempted to stop the SUV. A brief pursuit ensued and within minutes, the suspect’s vehicle stopped and both suspects were apprehended. Stolen property and cash taken from the residence was recovered.
Holmes was booked for residential burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, criminal street terrorism and resisting arrest. The driver, a 34-year-old woman, was booked for the same alleged crimes as well as felony evading police.
The sheriff’s department’s Major Crimes Bureau, Burglary Robbery Task Force is working with the Gardena Police Department on the investigation. Investigators from both agencies are attempting to determine if the suspects are responsible for additional burglaries.
Both suspects are residents of Los Angeles. Holmes is a documented gang member. He is being held on $1 million bail. Investigators said Holmes has a significant criminal history and is a six-time convicted felon.
The female driver is a suspected street gang associate who is a four-time convicted felon. She remains free on bail pending a court hearing in June.
