“We know our own love and admiration will be magnified many times over, across the world, by people who knew him for his films, his television shows and his passionate work for UNICEF, which he considered to be his greatest achievement,” according to a statement by his three children.
In addition to visiting UNICEF-supported programs around the world, Moore was an advocate of issues such as treatment of HIV and AIDS, landmine injuries and iodine deficiency. He helped raise $91 million for the elimination of iodine deficiency as the honorary chairman of Kiwanis International’s Worldwide Service Project.
In 1987, Moore launched “Check out for Children,” a partnership with Sheraton Hotels and Resorts, raising more than $16 million to support life-saving immunization programs for children across the globe.
Flowers adorned his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7007 Hollywood Blvd. A private funeral will be held in Monaco.
