A defendant was charged on April 4 with threatening pedestrians from his Hollywood apartment with a realistic-looking pellet rifle.

Steven Gregory Kaplan, 55, who is also known as Sebastian Kane, faces three felony counts of criminal threats and one felony count of vandalism over $400, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Kaplan pleaded not guilty to the charges on Tuesday and is scheduled to return for a preliminary hearing on April 17 in Department 38 at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

On March 31, Kaplan allegedly threatened to kill another tenant while she was in the pool area of their apartment building in the 1500 block of North Vine Street, prosecutors said. Later in the day, the defendant allegedly pointed a rifle that appeared real and threatened to kill pedestrians walking on the sidewalk below his apartment, prosecutors added.

The defendant also is charged with smashing the windows of the apartment. Kaplan was arrested following a six-hour standoff with police.

Bail for Kaplan was set at $1 million. He faces a maximum sentence of six years in state prison if convicted.
