A man who authorities described as a transient pleaded not guilty on April 6 to a charge that he allegedly murdered a commuter at a Koreatown subway station in March.
The defendant, Barry Lucky Timmons, 37, allegedly stabbed a 37-year-old male victim at approximately 4:45 p.m. on March 5 after the victim exited a train at the Wilshire/Normandie subway station. Paramedics pronounced the victim, Andres Ramos, dead at the scene.
The suspect and victim were involved in an altercation before the stabbing, according to authorities who released information shortly after the murder. Timmons fled the subway station and hid in a bathroom at a nearby fast food restaurant before surrendering to sheriff’s deputies an hour later.
Deputy District Attorney David Richman said Timmons faces one count of murder with the allegation that he used a knife as a deadly weapon. Timmons was also convicted in 2010 of attempted second-degree robbery.
If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum sentence of 51 years to life in state prison. Bail was set at more than $2 million. Timmons was ordered to return to court on April 26 for a hearing in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. The case remains under investigation, and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323)890-5500.
