A 38-year-old man who authorities believe is a transient is facing murder charges for allegedly stabbing a man on March 5 on the platform at the Metro Purple Line subway station at Wilshire Boulevard and Normandie Avenue.

The suspect, Barry Timmons, remains in custody. He allegedly became involved in an argument with a 39-year-old man on the platform at approximately 4:45 p.m. and stabbed the victim multiple times before fleeing. The victim, who was not identified, exited a subway train prior to the altercation. Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Timmons left the subway station and hid in a bathroom at a nearby fast food restaurant. Sheriff’s deputies located Timmons in the bathroom and spoke to him for approximately one hour before convincing him to unlock the door and surrender. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

Investigators located a knife believed to be the murder weapon, said Det. Richard Biddle, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau. Timmons is being held on $2 million bail.
