The Japan Foundation, Los Angeles, will host three days of “Artist Talk: Takahashi Hiroko” beginning Sunday, Feb. 12 from 2 to 3 p.m.
After attending Tokyo University of the Arts, Hiroko developed an academic background in Japanese traditional craft, dyeing, weaving and other handicraft techniques.
On Feb. 12, Hiroko will introduce her style of kimono production, which combines traditional practices with original, unconventional designs comprised of geometric patterns that are created using only lines and circles.
On Feb. 13, from 12:45 to 2 p.m., and Feb. 14, from 3:45 to 5 p.m., she will discuss her creative process, how to communicate with other artists while working together and her philosophy of “overturning fixed ideas and provoking new ways of thinking.”
The Japan Foundation is located at 5700 Wilshire Boulevard. For information, visit jflalc.org.
