The Original Farmers Market, corner of Third and Fairfax, presents its 28th annual Mardi Gras celebration on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25 and 26, and Fat Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Enjoy New Orleans traditions including bead tossing, beignets, Dixie beer, face painting, music and Cajun gumbo and jambalaya from The Gumbo Pot with a festive Mardi Gras backdrop. The 10th annual Mutti Gras pet parade on Saturday, Feb. 25 from noon to 1 p.m. on the Market Plaza will award prizes to the best dressed king and queen in the categories of small (up to 20 pounds), medium (20-40 pounds), large (over 40 pounds), as well as Jester’s pick.
“Mardi Gras is one of our most exciting and popular events, offering something fun for the whole family,” said Ilysha Buss, Farmers Market marketing director. “This year is no different, and we look forward to seeing a crowd of smiling revelers catching beads, dancing the day away and enjoying delicious, made-from-scratch gumbo and Cajun specialties.”
From noon to 3 p.m. on Feb. 25, New Orleans-style parade band the Bear Brass Band will stroll the Market. Enjoy the down home music of Eddie Baytos & The Nervis Bros on Feb. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. on the West Patio and on Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 6 to 9 p.m.
The Zydeco Mudbugs will perform on Feb. 25 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the Market Plaza, and the California Feetwarmers perform from 5 to 7 p.m.
On Sunday, Feb. 26, the Mudbug Brass Band will stroll the Market from noon to 3 p.m., followed by Grammy-nominated Lisa Haley & The Zydekats performing from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the West Patio stage.
