‘Music Without Borders’ visits Theatre Raymond Kabbaz
Theatre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK) will present “Music Without Borders,” featuring Los Angeles-based composer and conductor Derrick Spiva Jr. and Bridge to Everywhere, a 16-piece ensemble that performs music by composers who celebrate cultural diversity through musical traditions, on Friday. Jan. 20.
“Music without Borders” features five world-premieres of original works by Spiva, all inspired by traditional music from Ghana, India, Mexico, Eastern Europe and other places.
Spiva’s music has been described as “transcendent, unifying, danceable” by Orenda Records and “enormous fun to listen to” by the Los Angeles Times. In 2014, he was awarded New Music USA’s prestigious “Music Alive, New Partnerships” residency with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO).
His works have been premiered by LACO, Salastina Music Society and Los Angeles Electric 8, among others. Derrick Spiva Jr. and Bridge to Everywhere’s debut album “Prisms, Cycles, Leaps” was released in 2015.
The show will start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students.
