Runners and walkers can help the homeless during the holiday season at the inaugural “Homeless For The Holidays” 5K run/walk on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. at Griffith Park.
The event is the largest annual fundraiser for the Pennies From Kevan Foundation and will benefit local agencies that provide food, clothing and shelter for homeless adults, teens and children in Los Angeles.
Pennies From Kevan is a charitable nonprofit organization founded in memory of Kevan Matthew Isaacs, a selfless young man who helped people in need.
“Kevan saw the homeless as human beings first and foremost, he didn’t judge them or view them any differently than you or me,” said Gary Isaacs, Pennies From Kevan Foundation president and event coordinator. “He would never just walk past a homeless person on the street or look away like many of us do. We want to keep Kevan’s legacy alive by bringing these oftentimes ignored members of our community into clear view and helping them, particularly during the holiday season.”
Adults and youth of all ages are encouraged to participate in a timed 5K for runnersor a leisurely 5K walk along the Crystal Springs Equestrian Trail at Griffith Park, located between the Los Angeles Zoo and the park’s Visitor’s Center at 4730 Crystal Springs Drive. The flat gravel course loops around the Wilson and Harding Golf Courses.
Online registration runs through Friday, Dec. 9, with walk-up registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the event. For information, visit www.homelessfortheholidays.org.
