The Normans capped off a long, hard season last Friday with a 63-8 loss at home to the Culver City Centaurs. Culver City quarterback Jonathan Martin threw for an impressive 303 yards and 6 touchdowns. Six of the Centaurs’ receivers and three of their running backs had touchdowns while two defenders caught interceptions. The Normans’ offense matched their season high of eight points in the loss. Beverly Hills finishes the season at 0-10 and will look to rebuild for next season.
Fairfax Lions

Despite a tough 27-21 loss to Westchester High School last Friday, the Fairfax Lions advance to the CIFLACS Division II playoffs and will face the Bell Eagles at home this Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. Bell is 2-8 on the year and coming off a devastating 55-54 overtime loss to South East High School last weekend. The Lions, in their final regular season game, were leading the Westchester Comets 14-13 going into the fourth quarter, but couldn’t contain the Comets two late-game touchdowns to seal the victory. Lions quarterback Markell White threw one touchdown to receiver Armani Dean and ran in another, while running back Aaron Walton added an additional score on the ground. Westchester running back Estabon Bozeman got the best of the Lions by running for 201 yards and three touchdowns in the contest.
Hollywood Sheiks

Hollywood High School finished an impressive regular season with a 20-14 victory over the Bernstein Dragons last Friday. The Sheiks now advance to CIFLACS Division III playoffs and face the Van Nuys Wolves on Thursday Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at home. The Wolves are 3-7 on the season and are coming off a humbling 20-0 shutout at the hands of the Reseda Regents. Hollywood’s next opponent, Van Nuys, boasts a strong running offense led by senior rusher #28 Erik Castro who has run for over 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. Castro, a two-way player, is also second on the team in defensive tackles. In the Sheiks’ final regular season game, quarterback Ray Hardy threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Pedro Perez added four solo tackles and an interception on defense. The Sheiks finish an impressive 7-3 season going undefeated at 6-0 in league play.
Los Angeles Romans

The Los Angeles Romans defeated Crenshaw High School handily last weekend 40-12 and clinched a spot in the CIFLACS Division II playoffs this Thursday versus the Chatsworth Chancellors. The Romans are favored over the 1-9 Chancellors who started their season with eight straight losses. Crenshaw’s weapons include quarterback Robert Lane who’s thrown for over 800 yards and seven touchdowns, running back Xavier Brutus who’s run for 700 yards and six touchdowns, and sophomore kick returner Alonzo Williams who averages 28 yards per return including a 99-yard touchdown return on special teams. In their final regular season matchup, L.A. High held off a Crenshaw late game 12-point surge to preserve an over-.500 league record at 3-2 going into the playoffs. The Romans host the Chancellors on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.
Loyola Cubs

3-7 overall, 2-4 in league

The Loyola Cubs concluded their season with a tough 26-24 loss to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame last Friday. The Cubs mounted a 14-point fourth quarter run but fell short of the Knights’ superior offense. Loyola finished the season at sixth place in the Mission League inching out only Crespi High School who finished 2-8 on the season and were winless in league play. Mission league champs Serra High School will face Santa Margarita this weekend in the CIF Southern Section playoffs. The Cubs will benefit next season by the return of defensive specialists Tommy Vanis and Jack Fitzgerald as well as junior running back Jacob Mcbride.
