The Original Farmers Market, corner of Third and Fairfax, is holding its new “Fall for the Holidays” open house on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to give shoppers ideas for the coming holiday season.
“Festive entertaining is the sweet spot for grocery shopping at the Farmers Market,” said Ilysha Buss, director of marketing. “We have expert merchants who can help you with everything you need for holiday occasions – from large cuts of meat for family feasts, to the freshest seasonal produce, to imported sauces and spices, to baked goods and candies. This open house is meant to help guests develop their shopping lists and recipe plans on a leisurely Saturday in the friendly neighborhood environment for which we’re famous. Plus, with activities that include cookie decorating, placemat decorating and balloon sculpting, it’s fun for the whole family and we encourage guests to bring their kids.”
The festivities start at noon with a tomahawk steak preparation demonstration by Huntington Meats and Sausage. From noon to 4 p.m., Cost Plus World Market will hold a meet-and-greet session with Nicole Curtis of HGTV’s “Rehab Addict.”
At 1 p.m., Monsieur Marcel Gourmet Market’s head cheesemonger and wine expert will host a discussion about wine and cheese pairings. At 1 and 3 p.m., The Container Store will offer gift wrap and bow demonstrations.
Meet Patric Kuh, Los Angeles magazine food critic and author of “Finding Flavors We Lost: How Artisans Reclaimed American Food” during a book signing at 1:30 p.m. at Monsieur Marcel Gourmet Market. At 2 p.m., Farm Fresh Produce and Melting Pot Food Tours will teach visitors how to make guacamole and salsa.
Huntington Meats and Sausage will also demonstrate how to prepare crown pork roast at 3 p.m. Meet Rocky Kanaka, star of the CW’s “Save Our Shelter” during a dog cookie decorating demonstration at 4 p.m. at The Dog Bakery.
Children will enjoy cookie decorating with Chef Josette of Normandie Bakery at 11 a.m.
From 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., Sticker Planet will offer placemat decorating. A strolling balloon artist will entertain from 1 to 4 p.m.
Additionally, sampling stations will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. featuring items from Three Dog Bakery, Dragunara Spice Bazaar, Farmers Market Poultry, Farm Fresh Produce, Greenhouse Produce, Huntington Meats, Light My Fire, Magee’s House of Nuts, and Marconda’s Meats and Puritan Poultry (at Marconda’s).
Monsieur Marcel Gourmet Market will offer samples of new MediDate coffee from 11 a.m.to 2 p.m.; Italian pasta, sauces and balsamic vinegar from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Thai Nam Prik hot sauce served over rice from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.; and Meredith Farms artisanal Australian sheep/goat feta cheese on sliced baguettes with heirloom tomato from 1 to 4 p.m. Letterpress chocolate, L.A.’s only “bean-to-bar” chocolate, will focus on South/Latin American small farming preservation from 2–5 p.m. at Monsieur Marcel.
Additionally, Sur La Table will offer samples of pumpkin buttermilk almond spice loaf and Harvest Cider punch, and Tusquellas Seafoods wills serve samples of bay shrimp cocktails, crab melts and smoked salmon tapas.
Giveaways and raffle prizes will offered throughout the day, including a $500 grocery shopping spree. The Market encourages people to pre-order holiday turkeys from Farmers Market Poultry and Puritan Poultry, and pies from Du-par’s. The Original Farmers Market is located at 6333 W. Third St.
