James Lambert Otis faces one felony count of vandalism causing over $400 damage. The defendant is accused of using a pick axe and a sledgehammer to smash the star on Oct. 26, prosecutors said. Otis allegedly removed a brass medallion from the middle of the star.
If convicted, Otis could face a possible maximum sentence of three years in jail.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division.
