A male suspect who was arrested on Oct. 1 for the murder of an aspiring Canadian actor in Hollywood is still awaiting extradition proceedings in Arizona.
The unidentified suspect refused to waive extradition at a hearing last week and remains in custody, said Det. T. Adams, with the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Bureau Homicide Unit. The suspect has 90 days to contest a warrant for his arrest issued by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, and Adams was uncertain whether another hearing had been scheduled.
If returned to Los Angeles, the suspect will face a murder charge for the slaying of Richard Hong, 41. The victim was found bludgeoned to death on Sept. 23 inside a residence in the 6700 block of Milner Road.
Authorities described the man in custody as a transient who fled Los Angeles shortly after the murder occurred. He was arrested outside of Phoenix, Arizona. It is unclear how police linked him to the homicide, as no further details are being released until the extradition proceedings conclude.
Hong was staying in a residence rented by Canadian television personality George Stroumboulopoulos, who was in New York when the murder occurred. The residence is located in a neighborhood just south of the Hollywood (101) Freeway, east of Highland Avenue and north of Hollywood Boulevard.
Anyone with information about the homicide is urged to call detectives at (213)382-9470.
