The Melrose Elementary Math/Science/Technology Magnet is celebrating a $5,000 grant from the Barona Band of Mission Indians that was delivered to the school by Assemblyman Richard Bloom (D-Santa Monica) on Oct. 5. The grant, in addition to additional funding from the city of West Hollywood received last year, will help modernize the school’s library, principal Mathew Needleman said. Although parents have supported the school’s one-to-one technology program, books in the library are years out of date and in need of replacement, Needleman said. The school has embarked on a multi-year plan to replace the books. The grant application required the endorsement of Bloom, the assemblyman representing the community where the school is located. The Melrose Elementary Math/Science/Technology Magnet is at 731 N. Detroit St. For information, visit www.melrose-lausd-ca.schoolloop.com.
