Beverly Hills High School suffered a punishing 41-0 loss last Friday at the hands of the Hawthorne Cougars in their first conference game of the season. It was the Normans’ sixth loss in a row. The winless Beverly Hills team could not contain Hawthorne’s passing game led by quarterback Marte Mapu who threw for three touchdowns in the contest. Cougars running back Eric Foster added two rushing touchdowns for the Cougars, as did two-way player Carlos Jacobo with a receiving touchdown on offense and an interception recovered for a touchdown on defense. The Normans showed signs of life in the 2nd quarter on defense when they recovered a fumble, but the offense turned the ball back over on downs. The Normans travel to El Segundo High School this Friday, Oct. 14 to battle the 5-1 Eagles at 7 p.m. The Normans will try to capitalize on El Segundo having suffered their first loss of the season last weekend to Culver City High School, 24-19. El Segundo High School is located at 640 Main Street in El Segundo.

Senior Lions quarterback Markell White completed 12 on 16 passing attempts for 83 yards in the air, and rushed for 112 rushing yards and a touchdown. His effort wasn’t enough to counter Venice’s explosive offense led by freshman quarterback, Luca Diamont, who passed for one touchdown, ran for another and had 242 all purpose yards. Junior running back Justin Cauley added another score for the Gondoliers and averaged six yards on 27 carries. The Fairfax Lions are home this weekend against the University Wildcats who are 2-5 and have struggled on both sides of the ball, having been shutout three times this season and outscored 227-54.

The Sheiks will look to capitalize on Legacy’s struggling defense that’s allowed an average of 39 points per game this season. Hollywood’s defense is led by senior team captain Ruben Salazar who is averaging 7.2 tackles per game, has recovered 3 interceptions, one fumble, and caused two fumbles.
