Alex’s Lemonade UCLA fundraiser
Enjoy an afternoon of food, wine, cocktails and music on Saturday, Sept. 10 from noon to 4 p.m. during a fundraiser for the Alex’s Lemonade Foundation at UCLA. Executive chef Suzanne Goin is hosting the benefit with Caroline Styne (Lucques, AOC, Tavern) and chef David Lentz (The Hungry Cat). Alex’s Lemonade Stand raises money for and awareness about childhood cancer, with an emphasis on research into new treatments and cures. LUKE and Tesla
Tesla Motors invites the public to test drive a Tesla Model 2 followed by brunch at Luke Restaurant on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants can experience the car’s innovative autopilot feature during a 15-minute test drive. The electric drivetrain propels drivers from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 2.8 seconds, without using a drop of gasoline. Doma Kitchen moves to Marina del Rey
Sunday, Sept. 11 is the last day Doma Kitchen will serve in Manhattan Beach. The new Doma is taking over the former Panini Grill in the Marina Marketplace. Fans will recognize the upscale-casual menu and cozy atmosphere. The restaurant will offer familiar dishes including borscht, lagman (a lamb, vegetable and noodle dish) and lamb plov (lamb and rice). BBQ with a view in Beverly Hills
The Roof Garden restaurant at the Peninsula Beverly Hills is offering a weekend barbecue series running through Sunday, Sept. 25. Taste dishes straight off the grill as executive chef David Codney showcases his elevated approach to traditional barbecue. Highlights include Pabst Blue Ribbon beer can half-chicken with cabbage cilantro slaw; grass-fed beef brisket with buttermilk tobacco onions; charred whole branzino with house-grown radish, lemon and dill; and 28-day, dry-aged rib eye steaks served with Codney’s barrel-aged house steak sauce. Salazar’s expanded menu
L.A.’s taco spot Salazar has expanded its menu to include freshly shucked oysters every Sunday from 4 p.m. until closing. The catering duo Oyster Boys (from the Hollywood Farmers Market) offers a rotating selection that includes Nautilus oysters from Baja and Mirada oysters from Hood Canal, Washington. One Sunday each month, guests can enjoy cocktails, oysters and entertainment by comedian Brion Bronson, as he hosts his podcast “Shucking with Brion.” Guests are invited to join Bronson for shucking and conversation.
