A 41-year-old man was found dead in a residence near the Hollywood Hills on Friday, Sept. 23, and detectives are searching for a male suspect who was last seen fleeing on foot from the location.
Witnesses called police shortly after 2 a.m. on Sept. 23 after they saw a suspect burglarizing a residence in the 6700 block of Milner Road, said Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Sgt. Barry Montgomery. The residence is located just south of the Hollywood (101) Freeway, east of Highland Avenue and north of Hollywood Boulevard in a neighborhood known as Whitley Heights.
Officers entered the residence and found the deceased victim, Richard Hong, 41. The victim suffered blunt force trauma.
Hong was staying at a residence rented by Canadian television personality George Stroumboulopoulos, who was in New York when the burglary and murder occurred, according to media reports. Hong is described in reports as being an aspiring actor from Montreal who moved to Los Angeles to expand his career.
Det. John Skaggs, with the LAPD’s West Bureau Homicide Unit confirmed Wednesday day that the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. Witnesses told police that the man seen fleeing had been observed in the neighborhood for the past two weeks and may have been watching the residence. No other details were available, Skaggs said.
The suspect was described as black, approximately 5-feet-8-inches tall with a thin build and wearing a black jacket and pants, Montgomery said. The suspect was last seen heading west on Milner Road before turning south Las Palmas Road.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call detectives with the LAPD’s West Bureau Homicide Unit at (213)382-9470.
