The United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) and the Annenberg Foundation, International Rescue Committee and Yoobi recently welcomed resettled refugee families at a back-to-school event at the Annenberg Space for Photography.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon (left) met with families and students who received backpacks and school supplies.
The backdrop for the event was a photography exhibit, “Refugee,” which reveals the realities of individual refugees who are often ignored. The former refugees also met with resettlement agency representatives, private sector leaders and community members to discuss the families’ experiences.
The “Refugee” exhibit closes on Aug. 21 at the Annenberg Space for Photography, located at 2000 Avenue of the Stars. The UNA-USA is dedicated to informing, inspiring and mobilizing people to support the United Nations. For information, visit www.unausa.org.
