The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified a woman whose body was found in a trash dumpster on July 6 in West Hollywood as Joie Kinney, 28.

Kinney’s body was found at approximately 11:55 a.m. in a dumpster in an alley in the 8700 block of Beverly Boulevard behind the now-closed Jerry’s Deli, across the street from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department classified the death as possibly accidental or a homicide. Coroner’s office spokesman Ed Winter said the exact cause of death will not be determined until toxicology tests are completed.

Sheriff’s department authorities said the body had no visible signs of trauma, but Winter said coroner’s office officials found “some slight bruising” on the body. The results of toxicology tests may take weeks to complete, Winter said.

Lt. Mike Rossun, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau said an unidentified individual went to the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station earlier on July 6 to report the location of a body. The individual is not believed to have been involved in the death, Rossun said.

Winter said Kinney was a West Hollywood resident and was known to frequent the neighborhood where her body was found. Rossun said investigators believe Kinney was a transient.
