An unidentified female victim died Thursday after being found unresponsive in a swimming pool at a single-family residence at 131 S. McCadden Place in Hancock Park.

Authorities received a 911 call from the residence at 12:34 p.m., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey. Firefighters, paramedics and police officers arrived and found the victim face down in the swimming pool. The victim was not breathing and had no pulse. Authorities performed CPR, and the victim was still alive in “grave condition” when she arrived at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Humphrey said.

Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Aareon Jefferson said the victim was pronounced dead at 1:25 p.m. He said the incident is being investigated as an accidental drowning.

Humphrey said the victim was last seen at approximately 10:30 a.m. He said it wasn’t clear who called 911 or why the person didn’t pull the victim from the pool.

Los Angeles Coroner’s Office spokesman Brian Elias said the victim was 38 years old, but her identity was not released.

Humphrey stressed that with the beginning of summer, the incident illustrates the need for safety around swimming pools and Jacuzzis.

“The cardinal rule is never go swimming alone. Always have one person there who is a competent adult and can swim,” Humphrey said. “It’s important for children, but a lot of adults can’t swim well either. This is a great time of the year to find a swimming class.”
