A 20-year-old defendant was charged with assault on May 4 in a new case that occurred a few weeks after he was charged for a police pursuit through Hollywood, Cerritos and South Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Herschel Gene Jose Reynolds was charged with one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon and hit-and-run resulting in injury. The case also includes one misdemeanor count of destroying evidence – the front of a motorcycle – and an allegation that Reynolds was out of custody on bail when the crimes occurred. In the previous case, Reynolds is charged with multiple felonies including hit-and-run resulting in property damage and fleeing police.
Reynolds pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to return to court on May 24.
The most recent case stems from an incident on April 16. Reynolds is charged with crashing his motorcycle into a car driving on the UCLA campus and refusing to exchange insurance information, prosecutors said. When the victim attempted to stop the defendant from leaving the scene, Reynolds allegedly accelerated his motorcycle, knocking the victim to the ground, prosecutors added.
When police located the defendant almost two weeks after the incident, Reynolds is alleged to have repaired the damage to his motorcycle, according to prosecutors. He faces more than six years in state prison.
