Renee Weitzer, who served 36 years at Los Angeles City Hall – 27 in Council District 4 with the late City Council President John Ferraro, Councilman Tom LaBonge and Councilman David Ryu – retired on May 2.
Prior to her work as chief of planning for Ferraro, director of planning for LaBonge and most recently as chief of planning and land use for Ryu, she worked for nine years for former Councilman Joel Wachs, 2nd District.
According to Ryu, Weitzer’s understanding of planning and land use is unmatched. The councilman called her a friend and mentor, and said she will remain available as a member of the 4th Council District “family.” She plans to spend more time with her grandchildren in retirement. Ryu has not yet decided who will replace her.
