In an effort to boost the number young voters, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) board of education passed a resolution to provide voter registration cards to all high school seniors and to encourage voter registration during graduation activities.
The board also said LAUSD will ensure that voter guides and materials – in English and other languages – are made available at all high schools, adult schools and parent centers. District employees and staff will be encouraged to visit these sites on Sept. 27 to register voters and raise awareness about the importance of participating in the election process.
“LAUSD students, parents and school communities have been the deciding factor in every election calling for better schools, safer neighborhoods and a more responsive government, both locally and nationally,” said LAUSD board member Monica García. “Register to vote because our children who cannot are counting on you.”
The deadline is Oct. 24 for Californians to register to vote in the Nov. 8 presidential election.
