Two men were charged Monday with breaking into a home and leading police on a pursuit that began in Cerritos and ended in South Los Angeles on April 7.

Herschel Reynolds, 20, and Isaiah Dewayne Young, 19, have each been charged with two counts of hit-and-run driving resulting in property damage and one count each of first-degree residential burglary and fleeing police.

Young was arraigned Monday and pleaded not guilty to the charges. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 18. Reynolds is scheduled to be arraigned on May 10.

Prosecutors said on April 7, a woman drove up to her Cerritos home and saw a car she didn’t recognize in her driveway. The woman began honking her horn, at which point the driver pulled out and sped away. When the woman went inside her home, the back door was open and items were missing from the house, prosecutors added.

Authorities were called, and they located the car. As police pursued the car, the suspects drove away at high speeds, wove in and out of traffic and collided with other cars. The chase went through Hollywood on Sunset and Hollywood Boulevards, before the drivers headed to south Los Angeles.

The vehicle finally stopped in front of a home in south Los Angeles, where the suspects surrendered to police. If convicted, each defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of six years and eight months in state prison
