The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) is holding its Friends for Life Summer Camp in week-long sessions from June 20 through Sept. 2.
The camp for 8-13 year olds teaches basic care and responsibility for pets, respect for animals and the fundamentals of dog training. Children 8–10 will participate in animal-related games, activities and crafts. They will also learn the basics of animal handling. Older campers, ages 11–13, will also participate in animal-related crafts and activities and observe dog training demonstrations, learning about obedience and agility training with shelter dogs.
Former campers ages 14–17 who have attended Friends for Life Camp in the past may apply to become a camp counselor in training (CIT).
Registration for the camps begins April 4. The week-long camps are held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camps are held at the P.D. Pitchford Companion Animal Village and Education Center in Long Beach. The cost is $350 for campers; $175 for CITs. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available for qualifying, first-time campers.
