The National League of Cities Board unanimously voted to select Los Angeles as the host city for the 2018 City Summit.

The summit brings together 3,800 elected leaders, guests and speakers for four days in November to showcase collaborative solutions to issues facing local governments across the country.

Los Angeles City Councilmen Mitch O’Farrell and Joe Buscaino represented Los Angeles as a potential host city to the board. Subjects to be discussed at the 2018 City Summit in Los Angeles include the revitalization of Hollywood, the expansion of Los Angeles rail network, the creation and expansion of Silicon Beach and the success of the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues on the city council to plan and welcome the 2018 NLC City Summit conference to Los Angeles, and shining the national spotlight on the vibrant, diverse communities in the City of Angels,” O’Farrell said.

The last time Los Angeles hosted the summit, formerly called the Congress of Cities, was in 1999.

The Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board estimates the summit will generate at least $4.7 million in direct business sales and nearly $500,000 in local sales taxes.
