The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles held its annual Super Sunday phone-a-thon fundraiser on Feb. 21 and raised more than $1.3 million for community services.

Approximately 400 volunteers called people throughout Los Angeles seeking donations for Federation programs helping elderly survivors of the Holocaust and people with special needs. The funding is also used for educational trips to Israel for young people and the Jewish Federation’s security initiatives.

“It’s certainly our biggest fundraising day,” said Mitch Hamerman, senior vice president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles. “It’s a day for the community to come together and give back by volunteering their time and making a difference.”

Hamerman said many local civic leaders volunteered at Super Sunday, including Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer; Los Angeles City Controller Ron Galperin; Los Angeles City Councilmen Paul Koretz, David Ryu and Bob Blumenfield; and State Assemblyman Richard Bloom.
