The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and Healthvana have collaborated to enable high school students obtain free HIV and STD testing by using an app.
Last month, the Centers for Disease Control published a study showing that only 22 percent of high school students who have had sex have been tested for HIV.
“I am really proud of our relationships with numerous health agencies and partners that have developed products to help our teens in LAUSD,” said Timothy Kordic, of the LAUSD Health Education Programs and HIV/AIDS Prevention Unit. “The students can now find health services they need in their local areas with ease and trust. Healthvana continues to innovate and improve their product to make it better for the user, which is why they are attracting new collaborations with diverse groups such as popular online dating applications. Since we know that young people are turning to online spaces to find relationships, it is important to us that these spaces also have links to positive health information and services.”
Healthvana is a cloud-based technology platform that improves communication between healthcare providers and patients. The company offers electronic patient intake, electronic test results delivery and an HIV/STD testing locator. Since its launch in 2014, Healthvana has delivered more than 200,000 test results to patients throughout the United States.
