Beverly Hills has named George Chavez, the director of public works services, as the new assistant city manager. Chavez takes over the position held by Mahdi Aluzri until his appointment city manager last year. Chavez also will keep his current position until a replacement is selected.

“Mayor Julian Gold said Chavez “embodies” the city’s values. “The city is in very good hands with our new senior management team,” Gold said.

Chavez, 53, has been with the city of Beverly Hills for more than 25 years. Before his appointment as director of public works services, he held various positions within the community development department.

Under his leadership, the public works services department and commission developed the Water Enterprise Plan, a long-term strategy to become less dependent on imported water supplies by developing local sources of groundwater.
