The nonprofit Millennium Momentum Foundation recently honored Joan Pelico, Council District 5 chief of staff; former mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; and the California State University, Los Angeles. Pelico was joined by Los Angeles City Councilman David Ryu (left), 4th District, and Paul Koretz (right), 5th District.
The twelfth annual “Opening Doors” awards ceremony was held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Pelico was recognized for her service to the community and constituents.
More than $60,000 in academic scholarships were awarded to students in financial need who have demonstrated academic merit, leadership potential and a commitment to public service. Also honored were individuals, institutions and companies that have dedicated efforts to improving the quality of life and championing causes that positively sffect diverse communities.
The Millennium Momentum Foundation was formed in 2002 to increase the number of students and young professionals in public service-related fields.
