The rupture caused water to flow south into the intersection, causing minor flooding and slowing traffic.
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) spokesman Albert Rodriguez said crews arrived at 3:41 a.m. and shut off the water. Twenty-six customers on Wilton place were without water until 2 p.m. when the rupture was repaired.
“It’s a small water line,” Rodriguez said. “They have to take out a section of the pipe so they [had] to dig it out and excavate, bring in a new section of pipe and refill.”
Rodriguez said he did not know how old the pipe was or whether it was on the LADWP’s list of pipes that needed repair.
