The Los Angeles Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence recently held their third annual “Project Nunway L.A. – Outrageous Fashion Show & Designer Competition” at The Mayan Theatre. Over $20,000 in proceeds from the event will be divided equally between The Life Group L.A. and Being Alive L.A.
Project Nunway LA is a fundraising event that supports Southern California charities offering HIV/AIDS educational services and outreach programs in communities in and around Southern California. The Life Group LA is dedicated to educating, empowering and emotionally supporting people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS so that they can make informed decisions about their healthcare and well being. Being Alive L.A. is a nonprofit membership organization focusing on the mental health and wellness of people living with HIV and AIDS and provides free programs, including comprehensive emotional support, treatment education, prevention, advocacy, wellness and social services.
Project Nunway’s 2015 theme, “Tarot,” inspired designers to create fashionable art embodying the mysteries of the Tarot, bringing to life experimental visuals and over-the-top designs. Designers were encouraged to create outfits that required little financial investment, putting their visions to the test.
More than 26 designers – including well-established professionals, Hollywood veterans, Emmy-winning makeup artists and fashion savvy renegades – created one-of-a-kind fashionable art for Project NunwayLA 2015.
This year’s event was hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race Season Six winner Bianca Del Rio, along with her co-host Wendy Ho. This year there were also performances by local artists Daphne Von Rey, CADEN and Friends with Benefits Cabaret Series.
The 2015 winner of this year’s Project NunwayLA was Designer and Emmy Award Winning celebrity makeup artist Glen Alen.
