The Autry National Center for the American West presents the “American Indian Arts Marketplace” on Saturday, Nov. 7 and Sunday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event is largest Native American arts fair in Southern California and features 200 artists who represent more than 40 tribes. Sculptures, pottery, beadwork, basketry, photography, paintings, jewelry, textiles, wooden carvings and mixed-media works will be offered directly from the artists. Cultural performances will be held throughout the weekend. Visitors can learn the art of hoop dancing, enjoy fry bread and learn to make a pinch pot.
On Nov. 7, visitors can mingle with the artists and view the juried award winners at an artist reception. Discussions and ceremonies will be held as well as a screening at 5:30 p.m. of “Chasing the Light” (2014), a film by Navajo Blackhorse Lowe about a down-on-his-luck screenwriter who struggles to finish a script.
On Nov. 8 at 1:30 p.m., plays by established and emerging playwrights will be presented as part of Native Voices at the Autry’s Short Play Festival.
Daily admission is $12. The Autry National Center is located at 4700 Western Heritage Way, in Griffith Park. For information, call (323)667-2000, or visit www.theautry.org.
